It isn't just "irritating." It's emotionally-debilitating. It pierces one's self-esteem and self-worth...much like I'd imagine it felt for your friend who was trying to enjoy her workout in private (until the "wise guru" popped out of nowhere to butt in and offer up his unsolicited "advice").

The fact that it's a pattern, it's pervasive, and there's no systemic acknowledgement of it...that's a big problem.

For me, "enraging" is a more apt word than "irritating."
