A longtime source of consternation has been how to achieve confidence without displaying too much arrogance. Undoubtedly, men and boys are at the center of this age-old debate. It’s something I try to become more and more mindful of, in terms of my behavior, as I get older. I even made it the topic of a recent “Open Letter” I wrote for Medium.

In Chapter 4 of his book Man Enough, Justin Baldoni looks at how he has tried to aim for such balance within the context of his own life. He relates it to the structural obstacles that patriarchal models of masculinity have created for our society. The key should be finding that sweet spot where people learn to engage in more collaboration while still standing up for what they believe in.
