As a viewer/fan of the show: what's interesting is that, when I look at the Pearson siblings as kids, Randall is the sibling toward whom I probably would have gravitated the most closely, as (hypothetical) classmates in school.

Although I can't relate to Randall's lived experiences being Black, I definitely relate to him in terms of social anxiety (which is a huge part of my disability) and the self-pressure of feeling the need to overachieve. Also, my personality type as a kid was considered "nerdy" or "dorky" by my peers...so I suspect Randall would have been more excited about the prospect of hanging out with me than either Kevin or Kate would have.

Of course, for me, the beauty of "This is Us" would be how I'm able to see parts of myself in each of the "Big Three." I strongly relate to Kate's lifelong struggles with body image, as well as her fear of failure. And I strongly relate to Kevin's feeling of isolation from his immediate family while growing up (as the "one who doesn't belong" in terms of their family members' closeness/affection/camaraderie toward one another)...something I experience within my own immediate (and extended) family.

Although I really would have loved to have had a dad like Jack...and, while I wouldn't blatantly ask to trade my own mom for Rebecca, I still would've liked being related to Rebecca.

I also love how the writers chose for a teenaged character from my community (LGBT) in their storyline to be Tess, given how Black lesbian characters (especially those who haven't reached adulthood yet) have been severely underrepresented in prime-time.
