Barack Obama did support civil unions, however; even if he initially claimed he didn't support expanding the definition of traditional marriage. A vast majority of conservatives, on the other hand, wanted either complete (federal) bans on same-sex civil unions *or* wanted it to remain a "states' rights" issue.

For those of us who are only attracted to people of the same sex, secular access to those rights and privileges are essential. A shrill minority is bitter that the U.S. Supreme Court granted them to us in 2015. Now they want to revoke that equality in order to "stick it to us."

I'll die on that hill, to prevent such regression from becoming a reality.
