Ernie, I suspect that Gloria Steinem was referring to a specific male archetype...one that embodies toxicity and domineering behavior. But, if she failed to expand upon that statement of hers with more context -- then I'd argue that microaggressions such as those require robust discourse (and being openly challenged), rather than simply washing our hands of the public figure altogether.

Unless, of course, said public figure insists on continuing to bask in her own willful ignorance. Then the hand-washing may commence...
