I agree with your proposal of more and better co-ops (reimagined and restructured, compared to the traditional implementations of them). Here's another thought...
If the future you're envisioning can come to pass: could we see like-minded cooperatives coming together to share resources/knowledge/labor, when in reasonable proximity to one another? Not full-time, but perhaps even for joint ventures throughout the year?
Could we see a scenario where co-ops host farmers' markets OF THEIR OWN in neighboring communities (that will host them)...or even on their own land, for consumers who desire (to buy) their products to come straight to them (for the hands-on purchasing) in a more accessible and interactive manner?
