Interestingly enough, 1988 was the final year when my hometown held its traditional "Hobo Day" as part of Homecoming week. The following year, they changed it to "Black-and-Orange Day" (our school colors). I'm assuming this was because groups were expressing that it was offensive/insulting to the homeless.
While there's no direct connection between the homeless and Satanists, it's interesting that these shifts seemed to be occurring around the same time.
