It never ceases to amaze me how many people can be willfully ignorant of the ability for two (or more) things to be true at the same time...as though it's universally a zero-sum game based on mutual exclusivity.

Systemic problems can be specific and pervasive, while social or cultural problems are simultaneously specific and pervasive in different ways -- or vice versa. One doesn't automatically negate the existence of another.
