I admire you for having the strength and courage to GO TO the authorities, despite their clinical and (quite frankly) heartless reactions.

I didn't tell ANYONE for about three years. When I finally did tell some of the people closest to me in my life, one of them tossed these gems my way:

"Why didn't you report him to the police?"

"Why didn't you tell your therapist, right away?"

"You shouldn't have taken off your clothes and gotten in bed with him, in the first place"

"That wasn't rape; it was 'an incident'..."

"You can't complain about 'really bad sex' after the fact"

These successive comments (paraphrased) all came from the same person, BTW. And this was from someone who prided himself on supposedly being a "father figure" to me.

Yeah, really, why WOULDN'T I go tell a complete stranger, instead...????
