…t been boosted once, and I'd like to believe my writing has improved in the 3 years I've been here. I think limiting the "boosters" to certain publication editors is problematic. They will always nominate writers in their pubs first. Just my opinion.
Of course it has, but I think the focus on engagement has made it much worse.

I agree. I've made the suggestion to them that every paid subscriber to Medium should be able to nominate 2-3 articles per month (other than their own) for the curation staff's consideration.
