I agree with a majority of what you're saying here, Catherine. Social justice is supposed to be a positive thing, and many of the people who use the term "woke" (especially as a self-identifier) are trying to establish a baseline for equality and respect. So the Far Right misappropriates the term, applying it to -- as you gave as examples -- situations such as when the Seuss Family VOLUNTARILY revises/restricts their publication content to be in line with the times, or when activists fight against voter suppression statutes that are clearly intended to give an outright advantage to the Republican Party.

There is some valid criticism for the term, however. Some people will hide behind the term "woke," using it as a shield for pushing their own indoctrination attempts. These people can be on the Left (or, at least, that's where they position themselves). The problem is that they don't necessarily speak for all leftists/progressives/liberals. Thus it becomes a sandbox-fight against two hyperpolarized extremes -- and everyone else along the ideological spectrum, who appreciates nuance and healthy discourse, gets shut out altogether.
