I agree with you that "religion" and "spirituality" often get used by people interchangeably...and the lines get blurred, sometimes intentionally.

Let me just ask you this: Given how there are religious and/or spiritual people who *aren't* trying to pressure/coerce others into having the same beliefs as them...why shouldn't atheists be willing to support the same standard of sovereignty?

I see an enormous difference between someone who is trying to manipulate others into subscribing to theocratic beliefs versus someone who simply wants to practice their religion peacefully and non-coercively but doesn't go around trying to "convert" other people to their belief system.
