I agree with you that the original Roe v. Wade ruling needed to be far more specific and nuanced, in the first place, than it was.

But I disagree with people who say the Court never should have touched this issue and should have left it up to the states to begin with. I'm not accusing YOU of taking that position, Penguin. But it's a position (states' rights) taken by a vast majority of conservatives on most issues -- not just abortion.

This is why these issues (abortion, gay marriage, school prayer, etc.) NEED to be broached by the Court, rather than just leaving everything up to the states. If individual states are left to their own devices, a lot of people's lives will be harmed.
