I always hated the Eric Camden character. My least favorite episode was the one where Matt went on a rant defending Tipper Gore.
Also, back then, as a gay dude, I was offended that Queer people seemed to be virtually nonexistent in the Camdens' world. However, I do realize this was probably because The WB wouldn't let them tackle gay storylines ("Charmed," which was essentially based on Paganism, suffered from this same limitation via network directive). Since showrunner Brenda Hampton was extremely willing to dive into homosexuality when she was in charge of "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," a year after "7th Heaven" ended, I'm guessing the gay invisibility wasn't Hampton's choice.
