I appreciate your supportive mindset. When I brought up the Jacob Underwood comparison, I anticipated some might accuse me of cultural appropriation. So I wanted to make it clear, upfront, that I understood the issue.
I don't know enough about the history and details of Black hair or Asian hair to comment, one way or another, on those examples from any position of expertise.
It's probably a moot point, because I doubt I'll ever actually grow my hair out long enough to accommodate any type of locs or dreds. I just wanted to be clear that, if I ever did, I'd pick a hairstyle rooted (no pun intended) in a culture to which I actually belong, such as those with Mediterranean, Alpine, Germanic, or Scandinavian origins. I don't want to take credit for -- or disrespect -- African hairstyles or another culture that I'm not a part of.
