I believe that a lot of the behavioral manipulation you've cited is due to outdated stereotypes. Too many people assume that "that's just the way it is" when it comes to male/female relations -- so the harmful patterns continue to be perpetuated. And people continue to be dumbfounded at how "bad" the opposite sex is when it comes to communication, largely because of their own lack of critical thinking when making those assessments.
