I definitely agree with you, that the Democrats need to have a long-term plan for electoral viability beyond the 2022 and 2024 cycles.

They can vote out as many Republicans as possible this year and two years from now -- but, in the long run, it won't bear fruit if they fail to implement any policies of substance that will clearly benefit future generations.

So, no, Democrats can't assume they can just keep kicking the can down the road, indefinitely. However, the most immediate priority is squashing the threat of right-wing autocracy this year and in the next presidential cycle.

(FWIW, as a moderate Independent, I also have fears of what a left-wing autocracy in the United States could look like...but, the reality is: THAT isn't a viable structural threat, at this particular juncture)
