I don't see what was "hateful" about the excerpt of yours that they'd removed. Controversial? Sure, maybe in some people's eyes. But I thought controversy is what brings Medium profits, in the first place?
If I decided to give up my Medium patronage every time I'd read something that offended me or pissed me off, then I would have departed a long time ago.
This is very alarming to me. Not even the fact that they would flag you -- but moreso the fact that they would do so in a way that declines to explain what exactly they deemed to be "hateful" about your speech, as well as the curator(s) hiding behind a cloak of anonymity.
If Medium wants to hold all of us accountable for cultural sensitivity and its nuances, that's fine -- but at least give us an opportunity to engage with the editors/curators in a good-faith manner, BEFORE they impose the censorship or ban.
