I don't see where the practicality comes in.

I understand the argument upon which they are basing it...that White people have the privilege of tracing back genealogy in a way that Black people do not.

That's due to white supremacy and white privilege. It still makes no solid justification for why it's somehow "offensive" for "White" to be capitalized as an umbrella term if used as a neutral descriptor for people of European heritage.

All I see is guilt and thought-policing from them...which, yes, Marnita, *is* dogma.
