I guess what I was thinking along the lines of would be how, even if two or more applicants have identical test scores and near-identical GPAs...there's always SOME "X-factor" -- whether it's something they've disclosed in a personal essay, or something that's part of their CV/resumee -- that could give them an edge over other "equally-qualified" candidates, to enhance the campus.
