I have a bit of a different perspective.
I'm White, and I hated the original "Wonder Years" -- primarily because I found virtually all of the characters to be insufferable and unrelatable (with the possible exception of Kevin's hippie sister). Sure, the characters were a product of their time...but TV writing is supposed to be more multidimensional than that!
With the remake, even though I've only seen the first episode, the characters (so far) seem much more well-rounded than those in the original. Of course, it's great to see coming-of-age stories told with an all-Black cast, but I can also understand the criticism from viewers who believe its tone is too preachy (although, from my perspective, the "Wonder Years" remake's pilot was way more relatable than *some* episodes of other established scripted series that have handled the racial justice discussion in a grossly performative or virtue-signaling manner).
I think I'm going to give the remake at least 8-10 episodes before I weigh in with a more detailed assessment of my own impressions of it.
