I haven't seen the Barbie movie yet, but each time I read someone's review or assessment of it, I grow more and more excited about the prospect of doing so.

When my younger sister and I were kids, we played with our Barbie dolls together. Hers were Barbie, Skipper, and Courtney. Mine were Ken, Scott, and Kira.

My sister, being able to do a wider creative range of voices then me, was able to make her Barbies more distinct.

Barbie was a caricature of a "loose woman" who wasn't very bright, sort of modeled after Naomi on Mama's Family.

Courtney was an oversexed seductress.

Skipper was the snarky "mature one" who rolled her eyes at everyone's antics.

Since I was approaching puberty, I couldn't do a wide range of voices the way my sister could. My three Barbies (Ken, Scott, and Kira) were more vanilla in personality. Although I did have Ken and Scott engaging in a clandestine homosexual relationship together (a foreshadowing of my own then-closeted gay identity).
