I haven't seen the movie, so I'm just curious: in this latest version of it, are the mermaid characters in the plot mostly isolated from the human world (aside from when Ariel meets Prince Eric, of course)? Would it have been valuable to explore the historical context of Caribbean society (and slavery's role within it) in terms of having it be a "culture shock" to Ariel's character (since Ariel was from a supernatural species largely disconnected from the transgressions of the human world)?
