I'm a little perplexed by your position. I'll start off by saying that I agree with you in terms of how I likewise concur that people should diversify their spare time beyond just watching TV. But your argument seems to be a case of throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

You say at the end of your essay that you don't support a Big Government mandate to eliminate television from Americans' lives. You just want to see people choose to divest themselves of TV by their own volition?

But would you apply the same principle to habits such as gun ownership, sugar consumption, or using birth control?
