I never really saw any of "Chappelle's Show" when it was on, and I was only using him as an example because he'd been cited earlier in the discussion. I may or may not be giving him too much credit; I don't know.
Speaking of comedians generally, I'd always assumed that the intention to refer to specific archetypes within a group, when making generalizations, was IMPLIED (since it's arduous to qualify everything by saying, "I'm not talking about all ___[Fill_in_the_Blank]").
Like members of any group, I suspect comedians are a mixed bag. Some don't intend to cause distress amongst the general population, but they're just trying to shed light on problems that go ignored or neglected; whereas others simply don't care, one way or the other, and THOSE are the comedians whom I view as more dangerous.
