I suspect that many medical schools are probably now subjecting their trainees to overwrought seminars on "modesty" (which is fine if/when it doesn't skirt critical treatment). There is also probably a fear from some doctors (especially newer ones) of being accused of sexual harassment by new patients. If my suspicions are correct, this is disheartening because it means a whole lot of medical "professionals" are compromising their patients' health.

The more experienced doctors, as well as the ones with common sense, probably anticipate these pitfalls a lot more readily...and they've found ways of working around it, such as asking a patient for consent each step of the way -- or prefacing certain procedures/remedies with a variation of, "Well, medically speaking, this is my concern..."
