I think a big part of the problem is that so many Millennials are so willing to self-deprecate ourselves in a rather hopeless/helpless way.

One way this is reflected is how Gen X and Gen Z are overvalued while "sandwiching" Gen Y as the supposed "redheaded stepchildren" of the generational spectrum (you even did it, perhaps unconsciously, in your article: "GenXer" is an original designation, whereas "GenZer" is phonetically-sloppy while being exclusive of Gen Y -- the better descriptors for members of Gen Z would be "Zoomers" or "Centennials" or "iGens").

But it certainly doesn't help that many Baby Boomers themselves decide to indiscriminately berate younger people IN GENERAL as "millennials" (they'll even do this to younger-looking Xers).

Ultimately, your core point is correct: Xers, Millennials, and Zoomers have more in common than what divides us. But it would be nice if we began calling out the specific flavor of ageism that Gen Y specifically endures.

As Millennials, we need to stop letting society shit on us.
