I think it's fine to celebrate Thanksgiving as a universal time of gratitude (i.e., what each individual is grateful for) shared by people from every cultural background, as long as teaching U.S. history makes sure to reflect the fact that Seventeenth Century Puritans slaughtered indigenous tribes rather than trying to work in collaboration. And then encourage students to learn from that (and do what the Puritans failed to do), going forward.
