I think the biggest dissatisfaction I've had, as a Medium writer, is the decrease in reads and views. But it isn't just me: so many top writers and previously high-performing writers on the platform have similarly noticed visible dips in their readership, when evaluating their own stats.

This would suggest that something was done to the algorithm, in early-2022, which resulted in Medium writers' content showing up in fewer people's feeds or "Recommended For You" lists -- with all but a few (usually the provacateurs) suffering due to that change.

I don't know enough about algorithms to offer technical suggestions or quantitative speculation. I just know that enough people have been noticing it (not just me!) that it appears to be a widespread problem.

So, first, I'd say: get to the bottom of whatever changes were made to the algorithm...and explore how the algorithm could be shifted again in order to "spread more wealth" in terms of readers becoming exposed to more writers, if operating in the spirit of the intended "relational" model.

Also, here's one that's my own brainchild: could a "pipeline" be created for Medium readers (and editors) to recommend, more easily, specific pieces to be curated and widely distributed? An analogy would be when a congressional staffer comes across a piece of legislation that they believe would be extremely beneficial -- so they fast-track it to the attention of their boss (the congressional representative) and say, "Hey, look at this fantastic bill. Is there a way we could get this one expedited for a floor vote?"

Taking my egotistical affection for some of my own work out of the equation: there've been many times where I've read someone else's piece, been BLOWN AWAY by how masterfully they articulated their thoughts and conveyed their messages, and then thought to myself -- "Medium should be curating this on their front page for EVERYONE to see. I wish there was a way I could 'boost' this particular piece to the Medium team's attention, so it could be shared with more people on the platform!" Is there a way this could be facilitated while safeguarding it from individual users potentially abusing the process?

Finally, maybe give users on the platform some direct context for what exactly it means when we see designations such as "Chosen For Further Distribution," "Shared Across The Platform," "Top Writer," or "What We're Reading." Most of these designations sound open-ended to me, and I have zero context for what they mean for readers whose work falls into any of these spheres of good fortune.
