I think there is some truth to this -- although I'd argue that men and women are expected to play very different roles in terms of exhibiting emotion, both of which are extremely constrictive and repressive but just in different ways. But the point that I hope Jude was trying to make is that we shouldn't be cheering for the fact that ANYONE is subjected to loneliness. We should combat systemic and social barriers alike by reaching out and lifting up, so that nobody is compelled to attempt suicide. If I'm misinterpreting Jude's sentiments here, I hope he corrects me.
