I think you bring up an important "slippery slope" argument about safe spaces. Another more immediate risk: even if a safe space is created for marginalized people who share a set of similar attributes, what's to stop people who qualify to be allowed into THAT safe space from turning around and further exiling members of the safe space when intragroup ideological disagreements arise (within the safe space itself)?

I'm maybe a little more tolerant of safe spaces than you seem to be, Penguin. I think they can serve a valuable purpose when sensitive and confidential topics need to be shared. But I do share your reservations about the high frequency with which universities and workplaces appear to be christening them.
