I use same-sex marriage as a parallel because, before it was legal nationwide, certain people would use their "feelings" or "opinions" to justify why it shouldn't be made legal.
I see a similar parallel with expectations of chivalry society has from men/boys -- with the obvious difference being that chivalrous behavior can't be legally-mandated. But it can be established as a social pressure.
I'm not heterosexual, so the worldview-in-question doesn't affect me as much as it affects heterosexual boys/men. But I certainly wouldn't want to be with someone who values such rigid gender roles...so I guess I just fail to understand how women find that attractive without overlapping into the realm of narcissism.
