I would imagine it's more of the latter...that you just can't emotionally make room for him in your current life, based on what he did. I do wonder how much context you gave him for WHY you no longer want him in your life...*if* he doesn't have a lot of context, that might be contributing to why he's struggling with your decision.

There are many people who have wronged me in my past, and I want nothing more to do with them -- ever. However, if they were willing to accept that *but* they also wanted one last bit of closure so they could understand WHY...I'd probably give that explanation to them. Although, to be honest, none of them have pounded down my door demanding an explanation from me...so I'm assuming I probably wasn't all that important to them, in the first place. :-P
