I would just add that my friend Miguel (who is openly-gay) teaches middle school, and he has verified for me firsthand how he has had several closeted students confide in him privately when they didn't feel it was safe to do so at home to their parents.

So, that adds another dimension (albeit one that probably wouldn't start until biological puberty) to the potential slippery slope for teachers and students alike.
