I'd say this is a pretty accurate assessment.

But it ignores moderates, centrists, and moderate-conservatives who won't take such a hard-line as far as digging in their heels to validate conservatism's absolutism.

This is why the Center and the Center/Left are so valuable...they can communicate a lot of these concepts much more effectively than people on the Far Left can.
