I'm part of the "Xennial" microgeneration ("Young Gen X" / "Old Gen Y"), and what Roslyn writes here really resonates with so many in my cohort...we want to work for people who will treat us with decency, and who won't gaslight their own bad decisions (as our bosses) onto us through catty "performance reviews."
