I’m So Sick of Hearing About Johnny and Amber!
So then why am I writing about them?!
Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve probably heard at least some details about the Depp vs. Heard trial. Many people followed it obsessively throughout this past spring. Others took a quick peek at the details…and then chose to ignore the rest of it.
I fell into the latter group.
Unfortunately, residual commentary about this trial keeps circulating throughout the zeitgeist. Even if, like me, you had no interest in following it — the competing narratives surrounding this trial will inevitably be with us for a long time.
So let me break down how I view it.
Before this started, I barely knew who Amber Heard was, nor had I seen many of her TV/film roles. Her appearances in the ones I had seen were fairly unmemorable to me.
Although I knew who Johnny Depp was (who didn’t?), I hadn’t checked out most of his movies. What can I say? — I’m more into television than cinema. His only film credits I’d watched the whole way through were Pirates of the Caribbean (the original) and Alice in Wonderland.
Those two examples of Depp’s work failed to leave a strong impression on me, one way or the other.
