Isn't this more of a "Both/And" scenario, rather than an "Either/Or" proposition?

This story underscores a fundamental reframing of racism that has been evolving for several years. It’s no longer the case that “racism” is defined as overt actions or words that harm another person based on their race. It’s not even simply thoughts of racial superiority that are never spoken or acted upon. These definitions of racism share a common thread: awareness. What I’ve come to realize from this reframing is that racism is a societal problem even if we’re not aware of it personally and it may not involve overt words and deeds.

Racism can still be conscious or proactive...but it can also be unconscious or subconscious.
