It seems that a lack of critical thinking -- dissecting and reexamining one's beliefs from multiple angles -- is what breeds extremism (along with the violence or tyranny that arises from it).

None of us are right about everything all of the time. But many of us are right about some things much of the time...but *only* after we've engaged in extensive introspection and nuanced analysis.
