It's a mixed bag, even beyond what television-related technology existed. I certainly prefer having a DVR over a VCR. But having all of your options available within one cable package (sans pay-cable) was a lot more convenient. In terms of the TV content itself: a pro is how there's more awareness of the need for personal responsibility, but a con is how so much of that awareness itself has morphed into a hyperwoke caricature.
