James -- I realize I'm not going to be able to persuade you to look at systemic factors differently, but I want to perhaps dig a little deeper...
Are there any particular pitfalls you fear, specifically, from a public emphasis on systemic racism? Is it that you don't want society to allow people to make excuses for their bad personal behavior? (i.e. the weaponization of race to give oneself immunity from good character) -- or are you afraid of a slippery slope, where White people and some groups of (lighter-skinned) POC could be eventually relegated to an "othered" status themselves? Or is there some other overarching risk that I'm not seeing, here?
