John -- I apologize ahead of time, if it seems as though what I'm about to bring up might be hijacking your article. But it does have to do with spending, so I feel it's relevant...
What I'm most worried/anxious about is upcoming spending for the 2023 Farm Bill. This could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put in place the infrastructure and investments for truly transforming our food systems in a way that could generate a competitive free market between large and small producers alike.
Instead, I'm afraid certain voices in D.C. will advocate for a bare-bones Farm Bill that is merely a regurgitation of past Farm Bills, while predicating its underwhelming structure on the concept of "fiscal restraint" (or, "We already spent too much, throughout 2021 and 2022").
