Just some food-for-thought, on this point...

…ying ‘Thank you for reading’ to someone who has read your work is both patronizing and destracting. A few days ago, I read a really brilliant piece. He was a good writer, too. At the end of the piece, he said ‘Thank you for reading.’ In one split second, he had changed my attention from the content of what he had written to the supposed personal relationship that now existed between him and me. And in that one split second, my attention was removed from what I had just read to his thanking me for reading it. Instead of walking away pondering what he had written, I was left with a sour taste in my mouth because he had distracted my attention from something meaningful to something meaningless.

Just some food-for-thought, on this point...
Sometimes, the editor of the Publication that carries a piece will include "Thank you for reading!" as a standard addendum that they tack on, before officially publishing each new piece.
It isn't always the author's editorial decision.
