Marnita, you are absolutely right that these generational cohorts I've named are unique to the United States, rather than globally. I break it all down with more specificity here:

But it's all just a basic yardstick by which to measure the differing eras in which we were each raised. If you were born on the cusp of two generations, you may fall into a "microgeneration" that straddles the grey areas between the main cohorts:

You make a very strong point about how this notion of "civility" often functions as code for "respectability politics." And then, as you point out, it is used to denigrate and dismiss the demands of people from marginalized groups. Ironically, Sunny Hostin of all people is one of the loudest voices who has recently whined and pearl-clutched about the lack of so-called "civility" in America ever since Donald Trump took office -- as though everything that happened prior to 2014 was somehow stuff that should be retroactively celebrated as "normal." Hostin attributes Trump as being the SOURCE of this "lack of civility," rather than a byproduct of it.

The "Al Gore Invented The Internet" meme was a little thing that blew up -- essentially, going viral before there was actually virality. But it was an example of Gore's tendency to self-aggrandize himself. If you watch any of his televised political debates -- whether it was against Dan Quayle, George W. Bush, Bill Bradley, or any of the 1988 Democratic contenders...his scoffing, sniveling, and interrupting of his debate opponents is an outrageous display of arrogance -- my point being that it served as a precursor to the type of behavior that Donald Trump would proceed to ooze and radiate (in much larger quantities!) once Trump himself entered politics. I specifically state in the article that I'm not equating Gore's policy stances with the radical nature of Trump's policy stances. The fact that you so nebulously defend Gore against "lies" you claim were told about him tells me you were blind to his role in devolving our political discourse while it was actually happening -- specifically in the late-90s.
