My watershed moment came in the 11th Grade, when I took a course on Mythology.

Learning about all the different variations of mythological tales passed down through generations within different world cultures caused a lightbulb to go over my head.

No, the Greek Olympians (or any other deities depicted) probably aren't literally manifesting in our universe, verbatim, as the lore illustrating them would have us believe.

But isn't it conceivable that there are regional shards of truth reflected in all human mythology? Including the Bible?

It was then that I realized I'm a polytheist. I don't belong to an organized religious sect. I don't have any philosophical explanation for the genesis of the universe. But I believe the presence of multiple deities within our universe is the likeliest possibility. How they manifest themselves to us might differ, based on the civilization with which they are interacting (or whom they're influencing).

But I really should have been tipped off much earlier in my life, when I got into a persistent argument with my 2nd Grade Sunday School teacher.
