One other myth that too many White people buy into: the (mis)perception that affirmative action boosts unqualified or underqualified people. The intent of affirmative action, at least as I understand it, has always been to give opportunities to highly-qualified applicants from underrepresented/disadvantaged groups who wouldn't ordinarily be seen/heard when hierarchies are allowed to operate on their own.

If unqualified people are being chosen, it isn't affirmative action; it's tokenism.
