People base their racial/ethnic self-designation on a variety of factors: skin color variances (in pigmentation), level of cultural expression, familial connection to an ethnic culture, kinship with members of one's race-based community, etc.

We have to stop being controlled by poseurs on both sides who want everything to become defined by whether someone passes the bullshit "brown paper bag test" (in either direction).
