It would have been more acceptable, in my eyes, if the six Friends had had a few LGBT friends in their circle (as semi-regulars or recurring characters) who could diffuse the stigma that everyone inflicted against Chandler.

And Carol and Susan don't count, since neither of them seemed to give a shit about Chandler on an interpersonal level.
