Re: the possibility of declaring that no races exist -- that ship has sailed, unfortunately.

Race is a social construct. But that's also why race matters. And race is based on many cultural and geographical differences.

I think the more effective approach is the acknowledgment that "race" can be fluid or multilayered, depending on the specifics of one's family tree. Furthermore, we can learn disturbing facts about our familial lineages or the socio-political histories of groups to which we belong -- *WITHOUT* holding ourselves personally culpable for those transgressions (as long as we're making the conscious effort to avoid repeating them).
