Regarding the "Who pays on a date?" debate, my formula has always been straightforward and remains so:

-- If you ask/invite out another person, you should go in expecting to foot the bill for them

-- If the date was arranged mutually or by a third party, both people should go into it expecting to each pay for exactly their share of the expenses
